It has been a while since my last post. Usually I would blame a slump in my creative motivation or something equally dubious for failing to send a newsletter but this time I have a valid excuse. My wife Sarah and I welcomed our son Joseph into the world on the 2nd of September, and since then, well- things have been a little chaotic! Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in more challenging ways but ultimately we’re thrilled he’s here and we’re busy trying to be the best parents we can.
It’s blowing a hooly here today on the east coast of Scotland as we prepare for the arrival of storm Éowyn from across the Irish Sea. A piece of our guttering is already hanging on by a thread so I suspect a retrieval mission later when the wind dies down. Fortunately my employer has closed the building I work in which has allowed me time to write this.
I want to let you know about two shows that I’ll be playing in the next couple of months. The first is at Cambo House near St Andrews, Fife on Saturday the 15th of February. I played there last year as part of the Snowdrop festival. It was a beautiful evening of music set in pretty spectacular surroundings. There will be an open mic (if you fancy performing) beforehand too. Here is the link to tickets and more info.

I’m also pleased to be returning to the Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club on the 27th of March. I love this place, it’s great and they’ve always been so supportive of my music. It’s a double bill show with Mary Erskine aka MeforQueen, and we might pop up on each other’s songs, so should be a fun one. In fact, it definitely will be.

I wrote a few new songs before Joseph’s arrival so I’m looking forward to giving them an airing. I have some very provisional plans to make a new recording this year and I also want to get back into the swing of playing more often. If there’s anywhere you’d like to see me play let me know, I’m not totally on top of the musical landscape at the moment and things change fast so always happy to hear about new nights and venues.
That’s all for now, hope to see some of you at the upcoming shows.
All the best
David
A very belated congratulations on your son’s arrival in to this mad, beautiful, exciting world.
Huge congratulations to you and the lovely Sarah on the birth of Joseph. Babies turn your life upside down for a while so no other excuse is needed!
